SQL Client for Mac OS X that works with MS SQL Server [closed] Ask Question. Up vote 401 down vote favorite. Since there currently isn't a MS SQL client for Mac OS X, I would, as Modesty has suggested, use Remote Desktop for the Mac. Share improve this answer. Edited May 23 '17 at 12:18. May 12, 2016  There are many database clients entirely in your web browser. There is no software to install locally, so you can use them on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows and it works on all major modern browsers (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE and Opera). It supports connecting to MySQL, as well as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server database and Oracle. Mac Nov 21, 2014  Mysql Yog: Still the best client imo, but not for Mac, used it with Crossover but then it has issues. Sometimes use it with Parallels for it's tools which are more speedier then Navicat. The easiest way would be to install mysql server or workbench, copy the mysql client somewhere, update your path settings and then delete whatever you installed to get the executable in the first place.

HeidiSQL

HeidiSQL is known to have some bugs that results in crashes. See More
I love it, because of its lightweight resource using application. But the most annoying is crash and force restart/close application quite too much if you use the GUI to insert, edit, alter to the tables. See More

DataGrip

DataGrip is not a language-specific IDE. It supports a wide variety of languages by default, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Derby, H2, Sqlite, and many more. You can also specify your own JDBC drivers to get support for additional platforms. See More
This is an annual subscription with tiered pricing that diminishes a small amount year over year. But there are other much cheaper or free alternatives. This is the premium priced product of the bunch. See More
DataGrip is Jetbrains' independent database IDE. Most of the features inside of DataGrip are implemented in the other IDEs, however if you just want to edit some databases, this is one of the best tools to get. Even though it is expensive, I still recommend it. If you are in education and you want to get these tools for free, you most certainly can! Jetbrains has an education license (and also links in with GitHub for Education) that you can get for a year and can renew as long as you're still in education. This license covers all of their products, too. See More
A powerful table editor lets you add, remove, edit, and clone data rows. Navigate through the data by foreign keys and use the text search to find anything in the data displayed in the table editor. All your changes are stored locally and can be submitted at once. Multiple fields can also be edited at once. See More
As with all other IDEs, DataGrip is powerful and thus requires more resources than usual. It can use up to several GB's of memory when working with high-volume databases, and this has an impact on performance if your system is not equipped to handle it. See More
DataGrip supports a wide variety of VCS tools out of the box so that you can edit, test, and commit changes without ever leaving the tool. See More
DataGrip's code completion is context-sensitive and schema-aware code completion. It will take into account tables structure, foreign keys, and even database objects created in your code. See More
DataGrip currently provides two theme options, light and dark. The UI is intuitive to navigate and provides powerful features such as a diagram view of table relationships. See More
It can catch SQL bugs and suggest ways to resolve them. It will inform of unresolved objects and the use of keywords as identifiers. See More
DataGrip is a full-featured IDE for working with databases and SQL. It includes commonly found features in database clients, and offers IDE-specific features beyond that — version control, autocompletion, refactoring support, etc. See More
You can refactor SQL code with DataGrip — it resolves all references automatically and when an object/variable is renamed, you can choose to update all references to it in your project. See More
Jetbrains has an education license (and also links in with GitHub for Education) that you can get for a year and can renew as long as you're still in education. See More

Squirrel SQL

You can export to CSV, XLS, XLSX,TSV,XML. See More
Pasting large scripts into the editor is slow. See More
Started using it 10 years ago, because I am using Linux at home and this is a cross-platform tool, based on Java. We are using it with Oracle, MS SQL Server and probably soon PostgreSQL. Currently we are five people in our department using it regularly. Having some users stuck on old Office versions, we extract a lot of (summarized) data into XLS files. Pasting large SQL scripts into the editor can be quite slow. For any newcomer the biggest obstacle is that you have to separately download the database driver for your database yourself (apparently a legal issue) and then config the connection parameters correctly. It's the 1st entry in their FAQ for a reason. See More
Squirrel SQL works with any database that has a JDBC driver (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, ..). See More

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)

SSMS eats up a lot of disk space and memory, but Microsoft seems to have addressed the issue in the newest version, quote 'The current size of the bundle is less than half of what SSMS 17.x is (~400 MB). The size will eventually grow a little when the IS components are added back to SSMS, but it should not be as large as it used to be.' https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/sql-server-management-studio-changelog-ssms?view=sql-server-2017 See More

SSMS is aimed at SQL Server. Use of Linked Servers will give you some access to query other types of DBs using the tool, but this is a workaround. See More

+ Microsoft SQL Server 2008
+ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
+ Microsoft SQL Server 2012
+ Microsoft SQL Server 2014
+ Microsoft SQL Server 2016
Thanks to the FreeTDS project (http://www.freetds.org/) for their great library.
This SQL Client does NOT work with MySQL or Postgres. Please ensure that your server is a Microsoft SQL Server (2005 or above).
Note 1: SQL Server Express is supported, however using it makes me sad. Please confirm that the SQL Server Express installation has been configured properly for remote connections over TCP/IP, and that you can connect remotely from another windows pc before requesting support.
Note 2: SQLPro for MSSQL can connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 however it is not supported.

Love This App

I'm a veteran programmer coming from a unix/linux background. I took a windows-based job, which forced me to work almost entirely with SQL server.
I can do nearly all of my dba work that I need to on a daily basis in this app. There are a few things I can't do in the same way such as creating SQL server agent jobs, but those are outside of my daily work.
This app saves me a ton of time on a daily basis, because a) I don't have to log-into a virtual machine to do my work and b) it performs far faster than MMSQL on Windows in my experience. Especially in dark mode, it is simply far easier on my eyes as well.

Best MS SQL client for MacOS

Love this sql client. Easy to use, authenticates with Windows Authentication, and allows you to be just as productive as your windows machine using co-workers.
Additional updates like dark mode support for the current version of MacOS was a nice touch as well. Worth every penny.

Awesome Love it

It's great. And I believe that the folks who made this app are doing a great job. Keep improving it.
