Installing the View Client with PCoIP is very easy. After downloading the DMG image, open it, and drag the application to the applications folder. After opening the View Client, you’re presented with the connections screen in which you can add up to 4 View Servers. Until VMware releases a Mac client with PCoIP support, you can improve the performance of the RDP client by complementing it with the Ericom Blaze Mac client. The purpose of this document is as an installation overview for VMware View Windows client. The client works within and outside the hospital with all traffic being encrypted.

The VMware View Windows client is a simple installation. This client is available from the VMware website outside the hospital. This procedure will cover the standard “View Client”. The “View Client with Local Mode” will be covered by a separate document. In practice, either client can be used for a standard connection.

4. Double-click on the downloaded file to start the installation
   1. If the wrong client was downloaded, a warning will be displayed. Download the correct client and continue.

5. Click “Next”

7. Accept the License Agreement and click “Next”

8. Accept all defaults and click “Next”

9. For “Default Connection Server” enter “beyond.chop.edu” without the quotes

10. Unselect both options and click “Next”

11. Select both options and click “Next”

12. Click “Install”

13. The installation will proceed

14. Click “Finish” and reboot when prompted.

15. After the reboot double-click the client to launch then

1. Enter the CHOPID and the Entrust token Passcode.

2. At the next prompt, enter the CHOPID and password. Make certain to select “CHOP-EDU” from the “Domain” dropdown.

16. Select desktop destination
    1. The “Display” dropdown can be used if a connection other than “Full Screen” is desired.

17. Click “Connect” to log onto the desktop

VMware View Terminology

• Host
  • A physical VMware ESX server that runs all virtual machines
• Guest
  • Virtual desktop or server running on an ESX host
• VDI
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
• VM
  • Virtual Machine
• View Administrator
  • The web console used to manage VMware View
• View Manager
  • Same as View Administrator
• Gold Image
  • A master operating system image that is used as the base building block for linked-clones. Gold Images have all the local applications needed for the client to use a virtual desktop although gold images are never accessed except by VMware View Administrators.
• Linked-clone
  • A linked clone is a copy of a virtual machine that shares virtual disks with the parent virtual machine in an ongoing manner. This conserves disk space, and allows multiple virtual machines to use the same software installation.
• Full Desktop
  • A full desktop is an entire running instance of a virtual machine that does not share virtual disks. Conceptually they are exactly the same as a physical desktop assigned to a client. In general, full desktops are used when software or use requirements are unique enough that they cannot be replicated. Full desktops are also deployed when a client requires the ability to install software at will.
• vSphere
  • VMware’s premier virtualization platform. vSphere is a suite of products to build, deploy and manage an entire virtual machine infrastructure. VMware View is built on vSphere technology.
• vCenter
  • The core management system for VMware vSphere. vCenter is the host server that manages all virtual machines. VMware administrators have access to vCenter. VMware View is integrated with vCenter to perform its management functions.
• Connection Server
  • The VMware View connection server is an aggregation host for VDI access and policy deployment. Connection servers act as a unified access gateway into the VMware View environment that allows clients to reach all resources from a single location.
• Security Server
  • A security server is a hardened server that can be deployed in a DMZ. Security servers allow for secure communications between external clients and the VMware View environment.
• PCoIP
  • PCoIP is the native communication protocol used VMware View. PCoIP is the next generation of high performance remote system access. All communication is fully encrypted and there is no need to have any additional software installed on the client to enable enhanced functionality like Adobe Flash or High Definition media files.
• PC over IP
  • Same as PCoIP
• RDP
  • Remote Desktop Protocol is a proprietary developed by Microsoft and available on all Microsoft operating systems since Windows XP. Clients that are unable to use PCoIP can still access VMware View via RDP.
• Sessions
  • A client connected to a virtual machine is called a “Session”. A “Sessions” tab is commonly found throughout VMware View Administrator.
• Events
  • Events are changes, updates, or problems associated with the VDI infrastructure. An “Events” tab is commonly found throughout VMware View Administrator.

While many of you are aware that the VMware View PCoIP Client for Mac has been released mid march, I have not got to test it earlier as I was busy with my VCDX as well few vCloud Projects. Actually as a Mac user I were looking for this for a while, & now got the time to try it and it work just great. This has removed one task that I needed Windows for. Many of you might know that at VMware we use VMware View 5 to access our lab systems to test products and train our self on new products. Having to fire up a virtual machine and go through that to access our VMware View lab was quite painful & I am really glad the VMware View 5 Client for Mac now support PCoIP as there is no comparison between it and RDP specially over WAN connection.

In this post, I will document how to download and install the VMware View PCoIP Client for Mac & my experience with it. Though before we start let’s look at what the new PCoIP client for Mac offer as of version 1.5.0.

(Unless the “company” is Google ) I like this app very much just wish that it could accept email feeds from the iCloud servers. Two things stopping me: 1) not sure if there is an iOS app that is “like” this app (from the same company would be nice 2) (the biggie) I need this app to be able to connect to iCloud as well as Google. But GO for GMAIL Is soooooo much faster, clearner, than Apple Mail that I am thinking seriously of looking to find a way to do all my email via this app. Best free email client windows 7. Sticklen I love this app. Might be a stretch to get Apple to approve that through the App Store Then again, Apple would themselves (and their loyal customers) a GoodThing if they would just buy the company that does GO for GMAIL, disassemble and understand it, then redo it from the ground up to handle multiple email server types.

OK! Before we start the installation process and taking you through a demo of the new PCoIP client for Mac, you will need to make sure the below systems requirements are met: Aaa authentication failure for client mac: reason: authentication failed.

System Requirements

– A VMware View desktop with View 4.6.1 or later. View 5 recommended.

– An Intel-based Mac

– 2 GB of RAM

– Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.0 or later

Alright now you are sure you got all the requirements in place, let’s start with the installation process.

1- Download the View Client for Mac 1.5. from View Client download center at: http://www.vmware.com/go/viewclients

2- Hit the View download button next to the VMware View Client for Mac as per the below screen shot

3- Hit the Download button next to the VMware-View-Client-1.5.0-710491.dmg as per the screen shot below

4- Double Click the VMware View Client for Mac Installer. It was called VMware-View-Client-1.5.0-710491.dmg when I downloaded it as per the below screen shot

5- Accept the VMware View PCoIP agreement by hitting Agree as per the below screenshot

6- Drag the VMware View icon to the Application folder to start the installation as per the below screenshot

7- After the VMware View 5 PCoIP Client for Mac installation complete, Click on the VMware View Client icon in the Mac applications as per the below screenshot

8- Hit the Add Server in the middle of the screen to add a VMware View Server connection as per the below screen shot

9- Fill your VMware View Connection Server IP and hit connect

10- Enter your VMware View user name and password and hit connect

11- Choose the PCoIP Virtual Desktop you want to connect & Make sure the PCoIP is chosen for the protocol as per the below screen shot

12- Enjoy your PCoIP connection. Below is a screen shot of me running PCoIP Session to our training lab over WAN. What a great joy when compared to the old RDP client
